The Bianchina was introduced in 1957 by Autobianchi, a company created jointly by Fiat, Bianchi, and Pirelli. The idea was to build a more stylish and slightly more premium small car than the basic Fiat 500 while still using its mechanical components.

The Panoramica version was unusual because it combined the mechanical simplicity of a microcar with the practicality of a small estate car.
